What Is the Background of The Founder?
Keith Lindsey and Bob Legg are both experienced entrepreneurs who have been inventing products for many years. Along with being the co-founder of this company, Keith is also the owner of True West Services and the Chief Executive Officer of Air Boss Motion Decoys.
Business Pitch Episode Recap
Keith and Bob asked the Sharks for $65,000 in exchange for 10% equity in their company. Bob, who is over 81 years old, is still very energetic and passionate about their business. After demonstrating their product, they invited Mark Cuban to test the Krapp Strapp. After trying it, Mark found the Krapp Strapp to be quite comfortable.
Bob explained that the Krapp Strapp is not his first product. He had previously started a company called Motion Decoy, which primarily made duck replicas that moved in water to help attract more ducks for hunting. However, Bob eventually sold that company, and four years later, he teamed up with Keith to start a new outdoor business.
Kevin O’Leary asked about the sales of the Krapp Strapp. Keith explained that the product was launched in October 2022 with no advertising and no money spent on promotion. By January 2023, they had sold 4,000 units worth $199,800, all through their e-commerce website. Each unit costs $17 to make and is sold directly to consumers for $49.95.
When Lori Greiner asked how they achieved significant sales without spending money on advertising, Bob explained that after the product launch, Keith posted about the Krapp Strapp on social media on Friday, July 1st, 2023. The post went viral and reached 1,000,200 people by Tuesday, which led to a sudden boost in sales.
When Daymond John asked about their need for money, Keith explained that they were asking for $65,000 not only for the funds but also for the Sharks’ expertise in sales and marketing.
Robert Herjavec said that the business is not the right fit for him, so he is out.
Kevin O’Leary is not ready to invest in this type of product, so he is out.
Mark Cuban said that Daymond John is an outdoor expert and understands the industry very well, so he is out for now. However, he mentioned that if a deal doesn’t go through, he would consider making an offer.
Daymond John and Lori Greiner teamed up to offer $65,000 for 35% equity in the company. Bob countered with a request for 25% equity, and Lori countered with 33.3% equity. Bob accepted Lori’s offer of 33.3% equity.
