What Is the Background of The Founder?
Arya Alexander and Anastasia (Tasha) Alexander are the co-founders of Wellingtons LA, a food company they started in 2020.
Arya serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the company, while Tasha, who has expertise in business development, is currently working as an e-commerce manager at Anita Ko Jewelry Company as of September 2024.
Business Pitch Episode Recap
Arya and Tasha asked the Sharks for $200,000 in exchange for 10% equity in their company, valuing it at $2 million. During their pitch, they explained their frozen Wellingtons food business, highlighting that their frozen Wellingtons can be baked in the oven for 35 minutes and will be ready to eat.
All five Sharks tasted Arya and Tasha’s Wellington food, and they really liked it. Arya shared that they sell their Classic Welly for $35, with a total cost, including kitchen labor, of $9.41. They sell all their frozen foods through Goldbelly and their official website, making their business primarily direct-to-consumer (D2C).
Barbara Corcoran asked, “Are you trying to move away from Goldbelly to your own website for all of your orders?” Arya responded that their goal is to make their products available in 1,200 grocery stores nationwide, but he feels the business is still premature.
Mark Cuban asked about their sales. Arya explained that last year they made $313,000 in sales, with $240,000 coming from Goldbelly. However, the downside is that they also had a $260,000 loss last year.
Kevin O’Leary, who sells various meats like sous vide sirloin roasts, prime rib, and filet mignon on QVC under Chef Wonderful, sees himself as a competitor. He suggested to Arya and Tasha that they should consider changing their business model because their current model isn’t profitable. With that advice, he decided to opt out.
Michael Rubin feels that the business is too small, so he is out.
Mark Cuban thinks it’s a great product but feels it’s expensive to ship. He suggested Arya and Tasha find a better way to sell their product, so he is out.
Lori Greiner doesn’t like eating a lot of meat, so she is out.
Barbara said, “I’m kind of on the fence about it,” and she isn’t confident about the business’s growth. So, she is out.
